About this site
A sleep-gear review site that doesn't test anything, run by someone who'll tell you so on the front page.
Why this exists
Search for a mattress and you'll find a dozen sites that recommend everything. Every bed is a winner in some category, every listing gets a number out of ten, and nothing is ever a bad buy — because a bad buy doesn't pay a commission.
Meanwhile a measurable number of people are typing "reddit" onto the end of their searches, specifically to escape those sites. That's not a niche quirk; that's the market telling you the category has a credibility problem.
Lights Out Bedding is an attempt at the opposite: fewer picks, a stated reason for each, and an explicit "skip this one if" on every single product. Some pages talk you out of the expensive thing entirely. That's the point.
Who writes it
Stephen V. — Enthusiast
An enthusiast, not a sleep scientist. No certification, no clinical background, and no lab.
That word — enthusiast — is doing deliberate work. Every competitor leads with credentials: certified sleep science coaches, medical advisory boards, doctors on retainer. Those are real qualifications and they genuinely license those sites to write things this one won't touch.
We could have invented an equivalent. A fake "Certified Sleep Science Coach" byline costs nothing to type and is exactly what the people appending "reddit" to their searches are running away from. So: no credentials claimed, because none are held. What's left is somebody who reads the spec sheets properly and has no commission agenda to defend — which turns out to be most of what you need for this job.
You'll notice there's no photo. We have no photograph of Stephen, and putting a stock portrait of a stranger next to a real person's name would be a small lie of exactly the kind this site exists to avoid. So there's a monogram instead.
What we cover
- Mattresses — by sleeping position, body weight, budget and construction.
- Bedding — sheets, duvet inserts and comforters, where weave beats thread count.
- Pillows — the cheapest thing in the bed to get right.
- Sleep gear — toppers, masks, weighted blankets.
- Guides — the reference pages, with nothing to sell.
What we refuse to do
- Claim testing we haven't done. There is no lab. Here's exactly what we do instead.
- Publish scores. A number out of ten implies a measurement. We measured nothing.
- Take free products. Not one product on this site was given to us.
- Sell placement. No brand has seen a page here before it published.
- Write medical content. No sleep disorders, no supplements, no treatment advice. We have no medical advisor and we're not going to improvise one.
- Fake social proof. This site is new. It has no testimonials, no awards and no trading history, so it doesn't display any.
How it's funded
Amazon Associates. If you buy through a link here, Amazon pays us a cut and you pay the same price you'd have paid anyway. The rate is identical across the mattresses we recommend, so there's no bed on this site we earn more by pushing. The full disclosure is here— including the biases that money does create, which we'd rather name than pretend away.
Who owns it
Lights Out Bedding is published by Type 5 Marketing LLC.
