Privacy policy
We don't have a newsletter, accounts, or a database of readers. There's very little to tell you here, and that's the point.
Effective date: July 16, 2026
The short version
- We use Google Analyticsto count visits. That's the only tracker on the site.
- Our links to Amazon are tagged so Amazon can pay us a commission. Amazon does its own tracking once you're on Amazon.
- The contact form emails us and nothing else. It isn't stored in a database.
- No newsletter, no accounts, no ad networks, and we have never sold or shared reader data with anyone.
Who we are
Lights Out Bedding is an independent sleep gear review site published by Type 5 Marketing LLC. If you have a question about this policy or want to exercise any of the rights described below, email info@lightsoutbedding.com. Email is the only contact channel we operate — there is no phone line and no public office.
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We run Google Analytics 4 so we can see which pages people actually read and which ones are wasting everyone's time. It loads on every page and sets cookies (typically _ga) to tell a returning browser from a new one. What it collects about your visit:
- Usage data — pages viewed, time on page, how you arrived (search, a link, direct), and interactions we tag, such as clicking through to a retailer.
- Approximate location — roughly city or region level, derived from your IP address. Google states that Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses; the address is used in passing to work out the region and then discarded.
- Device and browser — device type, operating system, browser, screen size, and language.
We see this as aggregate statistics. We cannot see your name, your email address, or who you are, and we have not enabled Google Signals or any advertising or remarketing feature. Google processes this data as our service provider under its own terms — see Google's privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
To opt out: install Google's official browser opt-out add-on, which blocks Analytics across every site you visit, not just this one. Most browsers' tracking protection and most content blockers stop it too. Nothing on this site breaks if you block Analytics, and we'd rather you did than felt watched.
Affiliate links to Amazon
Most links here that take you to a shop are tagged Amazon Associates links. When you click one:
- Your browser goes to Amazon carrying our Associates tag, which tells Amazon the referral came from us.
- Amazon sets its own cookies and, for a limited attribution window, may credit a purchase you make to this site. That is how we get paid, and it is the entire reason the tag exists.
- Amazon reports back to us in aggregate only — items ordered, and what we earned. We never learn who you are: no name, no address, no order details tied to a person.
Once you land on Amazon, you are on Amazon's property and their rules apply, not ours. Read Amazon's privacy notice for what they collect. Clicking our link costs you nothing extra and the price is identical either way — our full funding disclosure is here.
The contact form
If you email us through the contact form, here is exactly what happens to what you type:
- Your name, email address, topic and message are sent straight to our inbox as an email, via Microsoft Graph. Your address is set as the reply-to so we can answer you.
- None of it is written to a database. We don't operate one. The message exists in our mailbox and nowhere else, and it is never added to a mailing list — there is no mailing list.
- Your IP address is used transiently for rate limiting only — a short-lived in-memory count that caps submissions per hour to keep bots out. It lives in server memory, is never written to disk, and is gone when the process restarts. We use no captcha, so nothing about your visit is handed to a captcha vendor.
Please don't send us sensitive personal information — we're a bedding review site and we have no reason to hold it.
What we don't do
This list is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly. On this site there is:
- No newsletter and no email list. We are not collecting your address for later.
- No user accounts, logins, or profiles. Nothing to sign up for.
- No database of readers. We do not build a record of you, because we have nowhere to put one.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of data. Not to data brokers, not to brands, not to anyone. We have never done it and the business model doesn't require it.
- No ad networks, no retargeting pixels, no social trackers. No Meta pixel, no TikTok pixel, no display ads following you around. Affiliate commission is the only revenue — the whole method is here.
- No comments section, so no third-party comment platform loading its own trackers.
Cookies
Two kinds, and that's all: Google Analytics cookies set by this site to count visits, and Amazon's cookies set by Amazon after you click through to them. We set no advertising cookies of our own. Blocking cookies in your browser settings, or using the Analytics opt-out above, leaves the site fully functional — no feature here depends on them.
Data retention
- Analytics datais retained by Google according to the property's retention setting and then deleted by Google on its own schedule. We hold no copy of it outside the Analytics interface.
- Contact form emailsstay in our mailbox for as long as they're useful for handling your question and any follow-up. Ask us to delete yours and we will.
- Rate limiting records expire within an hour and are discarded whenever the server restarts.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — California's CCPA/CPRA, the EU and UK's GDPR, and similar laws elsewhere — you have rights over your personal information. In plain English, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what we have.Realistically: if you've emailed us, your email. If you haven't, nothing that identifies you.
- Delete it.We'll delete your correspondence on request.
- Correct it if something we hold about you is wrong.
- Opt out of sale or sharing. There's nothing to opt out of — we do not sell or share personal information, and we never have. We honour Global Privacy Control signals by default, which costs us nothing, because we weren't selling anything anyway.
- Object to analytics. Use the browser opt-out above, or just block it.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of this. The site works identically either way.
Email info@lightsoutbedding.com and we'll handle it. We may need to confirm you're the person whose data you're asking about, which for us usually just means replying from the address that wrote to us. If you're in the EU or UK, our lawful basis is legitimate interest for basic analytics and site security, and consent where your local law requires it for cookies.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. We review mattresses, which is about as far from children's content as publishing gets. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Third-party links
We link out constantly — to retailers, manufacturers, and other publishers' testing. Once you follow a link off this site, that site's privacy policy governs, not ours. We can't control what they collect, and we'd encourage you to read their policy if it matters to you.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, this page changes before the change ships, and the effective date at the top moves. We won't quietly broaden it — if we ever add something material, like a newsletter or a new analytics tool, it will be described here in the same plain terms as everything above. Our correction policyapplies to this page too: if something here is inaccurate, tell us and we'll fix it.
